5 Min Interview

Where are you from?
I grew up near the beaches in the Gold Coast, Melbourne, Australia

What did you want to be when you grew up?
A stockbroker.

What was your first entrepreneurial venture?
When I was about 9 I used to sell avocados at the local market. I had a friend whose family owned an avocado farm. I used to pick up ones that fell on the floor, buy them for 50c and sell them for $1.50!

Who inspires you?
My Mum Ursula. She is a strong powerful woman, who was always determined that we should have the best of everything. She was a single mother who would always eat the burnt chops, so that we could have the good ones.

What advice would you give to someone else who is trying to reinvent a business category?
People won’t understand you at first. If you are doing something that's really new people won’t get it at the beginning. And always look for trends in the market. The answer is always there.

5 Min Interview

Where are you from?
I grew up on a farm in Victoria, Australia.

What did you want to be when you grew up?
I liked running free in the countryside and being able to work on lots of projects. I never wanted to be anything else!

What was your first entrepreneurial venture?
When I was 14 years old I used to collect discarded cans at football games and sell them for recycling. Grand final days were the big day for a kid. My parents used to complain about their car boot being full of smelly beer cans!

Who inspires you?
Maybe it’s a cliche but Elon Musk and Richard Branson. They’ve both built huge businesses but also are doing something good for society. They seem to be genuine people who have a strong moral compass.

What advice would you give to someone else who is trying to reinvent a business category?
It’s a long road. And you have to find your believers. Everyone we work with has a strong belief in what we do and aren’t motivated just by profit. We have been successful by building a community of partners and innovators.
